Hup Lee Fried Bee Hoon // Yishun

I will write something about my tasting experience. But this time round Miss HB expressed her undying rave about Hup Lee Bee Hoon. So off we went to Swee Sian Eating House at Yishun.

In terms of Economical Bee Hoon. Hup Lee is the better ones i have taken.

I do not advocate using the term “best” because it is subjective in the tongue of the one tasting. But this Hup Lee to me is good.

All the side dishes were tasty and does not overwhelm with grease. Chilli is old school sweet and tangy, similar to Chili of Nasi Lemak. Good blend with everything that’s on my plate.

If you’re concern over which to order – Bee Hoon or Fried Dark Noodles or Kway Teow. Be confident  to order any which you like. The standard is pretty much the same – good.
My personal food tasting starts with Bee Hoon.

Overall a delightful experience. Worth the trip.

Cafe Frangipani // Roppongi

Cafe Frangipani is ingeniously situated in a corner roughly opposite Starbucks Roppongi. When most stuff around Roppongi looks expensive. It is the most affordable when you have no where to go.

Frangipani – it’s a very unique place in Tokyo.

What miss HB and I did was we went to Roppongi in Tokyo by Taxi (¥1500), the purpose of hitting day wants to look at the Christmas lights. Upon reaching miss HB did not like the lightings so we got stuck there, we didn’t know what to do especially when we are hungry, so we went around to look for cafés restaurants and some bars. And you know what you found out?

Just main course will cost at least ¥3000, I wasn’t prepared to pay about ¥5000 (per pax) for my dinner. So we just walk and spotted a panel with photos huge omelette rice. We good outside, the fragrance got our attention, so we went to find out about the pricing, low and behold it’s not expensive!
The place was fully packed, so we have to poke in and out of the store to see if anyone notices us. Finally I think the boss noticed us and asked if we are interested to enter to have dinner. We have to wait for at least 15 minutes. Finally it’s our turn.

Anyway you see mini Volkswagen bus set up from nowhere and in there, a set of tables for four pax.

First order was always beer. 1/2 Pint Asahi. Something to note in Tokyo not many places serve Asahi Beers. Sapporo or Kirin are more common in Tokyo.

Next was salad, taste light and refreshing.

The following dish was Pizza, it is exceptionally and surprisingly nice. the portion was enough for two. We always enjoyed my pizza and spaghetti with Tabasco sauce, lots of Tabasco sauce.

Now, we come to the main dish, giant omelette curry rice. The portion was so huge, we will wondering how are we able to finish this dish. The whole presentation looks very appetising.
So we went ahead with our first bite, okay…you can skip this dish.

What’s nice in this place was the whole atmosphere where everybody just talks loudly, every tables were merry people, one Birthday Celebration and one Post Wedding Celebration (Bride dressed in Traditional Japanese Ceremonial costume, up close view). We stayed in Frangipani Cafe for close to two hours.

Got to speak to a Japanese girl which you can send in my gallery, who speaks good English. She returned from her studies in Australia. And we ask if there’s any clubs in Roppongi Hill which are fun and affordable. She suggested a few and we come to know that she is staying in the Roppongi hill Area. This is just a part time job for her. Rich Girl!

We went to look for clubs according to her instruction. Unfortunately, stumbled into a dubious one. So after looking around for bit more. We decided to call it a day.

Outram Park Fried Kway Teow // Chinatown

The continual long queue at Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Stall is one of the highlight for good food located Hong Lim Market and Food Centre.

If you’re thinking this Char Kway Teow have high cholesterol and blah blah blah. Please refrain yourself from reading. Stop glorifying restaurant food (fast food) as healthy and our local delights as sinful. It’s the same, like how TCM sensei always say. It’s relativity, only how much you eat. Taking too much of a good thing everyday is no good. Moderation is the key.

Anyway, if you have read most of the bloggers raving over this stall as one of the best Char Kway Teow in Singapore. They are not wrong at all.
I usually don’t go to places bloggers rate best or good. LOL! (Shhh)
For my personal taste, the secret is in those plump cockles. So fresh and brilliantly undercooked! Oh yes, combination of smashed eggs with every mouthful of Fried Kway Teow Mee is perfect. This dish is addictive i tell you.
If you don’t like cockles like Miss HB. *Meh* Let them know you don’t want See Hum.

Go ahead, make your way to Hong Lim Food Centre, queue and try it.

Tokyo2015-Starbucks x x100

Starbucks Tokyo is quite a charming place. But don’t stay in there for too long. Cos you will be too lazy to get back up and on your day’s itinerary. It’s cozy enough for you to take a good break (because Starbucks in Japan are quiet enough for time of solitude, everyone speaks very softly. And you should too.)

Coffee is pretty standard across Starbucks. I do suspect Starbucks Japan is more accurate with the recipe concoction.
I had really bad tasteless ones in Singapore, also a fair share of overly sweetened coffee.
Can’t say too much about the quality of coffee as I only had it once.

I kinda like Roppongi Hill Starbucks.

Question: Can your Starbucks card be used overseas or internationally?
Answer: Starbucks Cards from Greece, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, or Turkey cannot be used internationally.
